X Reactivation Study funding complete!
Thursday, 18 January 2024
Funding for the first CURE CASK project — an X-reactivation study — is complete. The breakthrough came through an impressive community fundraising effort organised by the family of Baby Tenley.
Baby Tenley turned 1 this January and her parents used the occasion to create a fundraiser to support the research initiative. The family and their supporters raised $35,000, exceeding the amount needed to complete the funding requirements.
This collaborative achievement represents cooperation among multiple CASK non-profit organisations united behind a common objective. The funds will enable the Fink Lab at UC Davis to investigate whether the silenced CASK gene can be reactivated using gene technology in stem cells.
The research will provide enough data to (1) see whether it is possible to activate the silenced CASK gene using gene technology and (2) enable the team to apply for larger grants — demonstrating the strength of individual CASK non-profits working together with a common aim.
