World Autism Acceptance Week (28 March – 3 April). Our medical advisor, Dr Laura Powling, addresses common questions from parents of children with CASK gene mutations.
Autism traits without diagnosis: individuals can exhibit autistic characteristics without receiving a formal diagnosis. Diagnostic criteria must be met for an official diagnosis, and professionals must determine whether autism best explains observed traits or if another condition provides a better explanation.
Sleep disorders and autism: many autistic individuals experience sleeping difficulties. Potential causes include difficulties with relaxing or winding down and/or irregular melatonin levels.
Our approach emphasises comprehensive assessment to understand the root causes of observed characteristics in individuals with CASK-related conditions.
